Ask Claude why your row has stalled and it can only answer in general terms. Connect it to your Povver log and the same question gets your row: the dates, the weights, the reps in reserve, and when the slide started. It can then change the routine for you.
What does Claude say when a lift stalls?
In this example, the log belongs to a lifter on an upper/lower split with nine weeks of history. Both videos are the same conversation in Claude Desktop, cut only where Claude waits on its tools.
"Which of my lifts are stalling, and what does the log say about why?"
"Bent Over Row (Barbell) is your only lift flagged as stalling." Claude gave the estimated 1RM week by week, from 95 kg in early August to 81.7 kg, about 14% below its peak. The logged RIR (reps in reserve) fell from 2.2 to 0.3 over the same weeks, and the last session went 5, 5 and 4 reps at 70 kg. Claude read that as accumulated fatigue: "You're pushing closer to failure each week but getting less output for it."
"Swap the row for a lift that trains the same muscles, in my routine."
Claude found the row in both upper-body templates and replaced it with a chest-supported row: "it trains the same primary muscles (lats, rhomboids, traps, teres major) as the bent-over row, but the chest support takes your lower back and hip stabilizers out of the equation." The new row starts at three working sets of 5 at 65 kg, each stopping at RIR 2, "since starting a new movement at true failure isn't a great idea." Both templates in the app now carry the new row.
How to connect Claude to Povver's MCP server
- Install Povver on your iPhone, create an account and start the 14-day free trial.
- Log your sessions in the app. Claude answers from what is logged, so a few weeks of history give it trends to read.
- In Claude Desktop or claude.ai, open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
- Name it Povver and paste the server URL:
https://mcp.povver.ai/mcp - Click Add and sign in with your Povver account. No key needed.
- Ask Claude to check the connection. It replies with your name and subscription.
The connector checks your trial or subscription on every request. In the app, Profile → Integrations → Claude shows this month's reads and writes, which tools Claude used, and a button to disconnect.
What else can I ask Claude about my training?
Other conversations on the same example log answered:
- Is my chest getting enough weekly volume? "Right now you're at 4 hard sets for chest this week, below your MEV (minimum effective volume) target of 8 sets."
- How has my incline dumbbell press moved? Estimated 1RM from 37.3 kg to 42.7 kg across its last seven weeks of sessions, about 14%, marked progressing.
- My last four weeks of the bent-over row, as a table. Every set, dated, with weight, reps, RIR and estimated 1RM.
What Claude can read and change
Claude reads your whole history, set by set, and what Povver worked out from it: each lift's verdict (progressing, holding, stalling), estimated 1RM by week, and hard sets per muscle against its minimum and maximum. It can write routines, templates, your training plan and finished workouts, and it can remember an injury. Of its 40 tools, 24 read, 13 write and 3 delete, and each is marked as one of the three. The full tool list and more example prompts are at mcp.povver.ai. Logging a session as you train stays in the app. Claude can record a finished one. Two runs of the same question can word the answer differently, and the numbers come from your log each time. Nothing it can change touches your subscription or your sign-in. Povver and its AI provider do not use your training data to train AI models. What Claude does with a conversation follows your own Anthropic account settings.
How do I get sleep and recovery data into Claude next to my training?
Povver holds the strength side: every set, each lift's trend and the weekly volume per muscle. Claude can read other sources in the same conversation, so one question can draw on your lifting and your sleep, recovery or food.
- Apple Health or Health Connect. In the US, on a Pro or Max plan, the Claude apps for iPhone and Android can read Apple Health or Health Connect (a read-only beta). That brings in sleep, heart rate, weight and nutrition from any app that writes there.
- MCP servers for other data. MCP servers exist for Withings, Oura, WHOOP, Garmin, Fitbit and Cronometer. Most are community-built, so check who runs one before you connect it. Some are added in Claude as a custom connector URL, like Povver's. Others run on your own computer.
Questions that need both:
- Did my bench stall in the weeks I slept under seven hours?
- Is my resting heart rate higher the morning after a heavy lower day?
- Am I eating enough protein on training days for this much volume?
